Early thoughts on the half-marathon

First off I have got to lose some weight and be better trained next time. I just got off the scale and um, yeah. And for training during the week, it rarely happened during this training season. I'm very fortunate to walk away (intended pun) with only a few sore muscles plus a nasty case of plantar fasciitis.

Having said all of that, I'm pretty pleased with my results. I did the race at a 16:14 pace which is about what I trained at all season. And there were 120 people behind me in my age/gender division (F 30-34). Not very sportwomanlike I know but I am a tad competitive in these endeavors.

The race was really fun. In contrast to the full marathon I did last year I was able to enjoy myself for most of it. I grooved to the bands, high-fived some cheerleaders and laughed at the jokes that folks around me were making. There was this guy with a Phoenix Triathlon club shirt who was making us all laugh the entire second half of the race. Especially funny was him asking various motorcycle cops to give him a ride to the end.

Funny signs along the course

Two miles to free beer
Sweat is sexy
Run Forrest Run!

And I was only 16,963 people behind the half-marathon world record
